A detour around road construction.
The first ride is one
hour by 4-wheel drive jeep. Cost is about $2 for
Nepali's and $4.50 for foreigners. The jeeps leave
when they have 14 passengers, plus the driver, plus
however many they can fit on the roof. On the trip
toward Beni the river is on the left and in Nepal they
drive on the left. Even though there are few spots where
two vehicle can pass each other, the driver kept the
left wheel as close to the edge (and the drop off to the
river) as possible. Not a comfortable feeling when
I was sitting in the left front seat and could see how
much play was in the steering system.
