On the morning
of the 10th day, the wife of the owner of the hotel
where we always stay (Thong La) invited us
into her home for tea. We tried to say no, but that
is considered a bit of an insult. These photos are
of the living room (2nd floor). Sleeping area was a
loft on the third floor. Note the best clothes on
display on the walls around the room and keep in
mind that this was one of the wealthiest women in
town (wearing a turquoise necklace that our porter
said cost $5000, but I think he meant $500?
The place was spotlessly clean. Her husband (his
photo on day 11) owns the hotel we like in Manang
and the big hotel at the base camp that is
always full. He also owns lots of livestock. Not a
poor Nepali.
Looking back at Manang as we climb over the hill.
This is the first time I have seen yaks on Annapurna.
Usually from April until late October they are higher up
the mountains.
I'm ready for some "testy" food.
Throng Pedi base camp
It started snowing around 1 o'clock

Snow gets harder
Our porters show up covered in snow
On our last April trek
(about 6 years ago) it started snowing like this when we
got to the base camp. It snowed hard that night
and nobody could make it over the pass for several days.
Finally on the third day the weather was clear and we
were able to make the trip over the pass and on to
Muktinath.
