DAY 8

Just outside of Pisang we come across our first snow on the trail.  Not a good sign.

With the exception of a few pretty good hills, much of the walk from Pisang to Manang is flat and very scenic.

Sunrise coming to Manang valley

Yak heads on a shack by the trail.

Stone tablets with ancient religious writings on them

Entrance to Manang

I enjoyed watching this little girl carrying water up the ladder. She would put it on the highest step she could reach, climb one step and move the water up one more step.  Finally her sister came to help her at the top.

Two evenings in Manang....It's time for a drink (or two)

There are lots of newer and bigger hotels, but none of them can match the view from the Thong La Hotel.  Great view of the glacier (which has receded significantly since my last visit).

We have always enjoyed the garlic pizzas in the Thong La.  This time I carried in a bag of sliced pepperoni (no refrigeration required) and asked the manager if we could make some pepperoni pizzas.  Here is the chef preparing the sauce.

Bill and the manager with the first pepperoni pizzas ever made in Manang.

Even with Yak cheese the results were a fantastic change from fried noodles with mixed vegetables.

Most afternoons it clouded up, but today the weather took a turn and became nasty with mixed rain and snow with thunder & lightning
